Aurukun Workshop
Aurukun State School, established in 1974, serves over 235 students from Pre-Prep to secondary and is deeply grounded in the culture and languages of the Wik and Kugu People. With Wik Mungkan as the primary language of instruction in the early years, the school values strong cultural identity and community voice, supported by an active PAAMP Board. This workshop showcases how culture and language are celebrated, offering insights and inspiration from local experts.

Aurukun State School opened in 1974 and remains the only school in Aurukun. We cater for more than 235 Pre-Prep to secondary students. Our school is also known locally as Koolkan Aurukun Community School.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the Wik and Kugu People. We acknowledge that the education of children has occurred on this land for tens of thousands of years.
Our students are active learners who come from a rich cultural and linguistic background. While our school uses the Australian Curriculum, in our early years the first language of instruction is Wik Mungkan.
